Welcome to Scotsmist personal computer supportThe guides are based on our experience with
PC's, which you may find useful. Topics include newbie,
buying computer equipment, backing
up important files, top tips and tricks.
We have started our own beginners corner
offering practical advice, a do's and don'ts page and a hardware reference
guide. The technical pages offer a more detailed
writing for those wanting to know more about the personal computer. We
take a look at the BIOS. The CMOS is explained,
with in-depth descriptions of the configuration such as Plug
& Play or Power Management
and ACPI. There is a complete reference to components
such as the power supply unit (PSU), the main processor
or motherboard and many of the peripherals. We have compiled a comprehensive list of useful links to manufacturers
pages and other sites offering a similar technical
content to ours. There is a page dedicated to sites of a Scottish
theme and a favourites page. Recently we
added links to component, peripheral and motherboard sites, a compilation
of the best search engines around complete
with a brief explanation of their service, links to useful free subscriptions
and a list of online PC magazines. Our glossary covers every technical word,
phrase or jargon we know. There is an A to Z of file extensions,
acronyms and chat symbols
as well as domain suffixes and emoticons.
This section is frequently updated as more jargon unfolds. We plan to include
an option to search only this section of the site. Our news pages offer live interesting and important
updates including local UK weather reports.
There are useful links to major news suppliers on the web and a dedicated
rugby sports page which has links to other
sites. There are many download sites on the net, so we created a list of the
best pages on the web as well as a list of the latest top ten downloads,
compiled by MyZips. We have also included several applications that we
find useful if you wish to download them
from our old site. Collected from far too many sources to list. The subjects range from
power users, field engineers, support
staff, customers and a light hearted poke
at everyone's favourite software giant Micro$oft. A list of the best computer
humour sites can also be found here. |
