The visitor counter is outdated
I have displayed a counter for a number of years at various sites around
the Internet and up until recently have enjoyed the buzz as I received
more readers. The up keep of running a script on my server has meant ditching
what has become a bit of a dinosaur. After monitoring the logs and comparing
the counter to the logs I have decided to publish the results of my log
file on this site instead of displaying a counter on every single page.
The counter has been replaced with a recommend this site to a friend button.
I have read some interesting articles regarding counters and have came
to this brief conclusion. I can tell how many times a page has been retrieved
from my server but not how many times it was actually read. Newspapers
live with it all the time and accept it. A publisher knows how many people
have bought a copy but not how many people have actually read it. So this
is a report that tells me how hard my server worked and if I exceeded
my bandwidth in any one month. To see this years counter click the link
