I have compiled an extensive appendix for you to rummage through. Most of
the sections consist of an A to Z with some letters spanning several pages.
In the left margin you will find links to the
main sections of the dictionary pages on this site.
Computer Dictionary
Every industry has it's own terminology and computers are no exception.
I have compiled a very comprehensive catalogue of phrases, words, syntax
and anything else I thought should go in a computer encyclopaedia.
The Glossary
This glossary of computing terminology is a collection of words or phrases
gathered from a vast source of reference material. I have worked on this
glossary for some considerable number of years. I plan to make it better.

Emoticons
We all know those cute little computer symbols called "emoticons",
where :) means a smile and :( is a frown. Sometimes these are represented
by :-) and :-( respectively.
File Extensions
These extensions at the end of a filename refer to the type of file it
is. This information is used by your operating system to launch an appropriate
program when you click on the filename. Example: file.txt is a text file
and can be opened by a text editor program.
Domain Suffixes
These extensions found at the end of a URL or e-mail address signify a
category of web site, such as commercial(.com) or the country from which
the web site originates, such as Tuvalu(.tv).
Chat Symbols
These terms are used in online real-time typed conversation as a sort
of shorthand form of communication. There are a couple of pages because
I could not fit it all in. Look for the right or left arrows to navigate
the pages, or use the links in the left hand margin below the recommend this site image.
Acronyms
I have created several pages that include as many abbreviations as possible
for one person, but keep in mind that new ones are being made up all the
time. If you do not find what you are looking for, come back soon because
it may have been added. There is more chance that I will add what you
have looked for if you use the search facility on my site. This is due
to statistics that the search engine logs every time a reader uses the
facility. I frequently audit the log which is e-mailed to me every week.
Alternatively you could send me an e-mail, requesting I add the acronym.
Picture Gallery
I have decided to add a picture gallery at the request of many readers
to the site. The images in there are to help you visualise what I'm talking
about most of the time. As the site progresses I will add links from the
technical pages, where appropriate to a relevant image in the gallery.
